Site Creation
Eagle Scout Project

Potential Eagle Scout candidates are challenged with the task of "planning, developing, and leading others in a service project helpful to your religious institution, school, or your community. (The project should benefit an organization other than the BSA.)  The project plan must be approved by the organization benefiting from the effort..."

This entire website represents the Eagle Scout project for Eric Hill, who led the team that developed this site.

Benefit to the Town

Years ago, the Town of Sterlington had only one major outlet for mass communication, the ‘Town Talk’ newspaper. This paper helped to inform citizens of the town (as well as prospective families) of decisions or pending issues. Because of several reasons, the ‘Town Talk’ could no longer publish as of about nine years ago, and the governing body of Sterlington no longer had consistent local coverage as a source of mass communications. While in recent times the Town

of Sterlington publishes all public proceedings in ‘The News-Star’, the town has desired its own means of communicating directly with its citizens and constituents in a timely and consistent fashion. Now, with approximately 63%-64% of American households having internet access, the town government has turned to a website. With the new Sterlington Memorial Library to be completed soon, practically all of the general public will have internet availability.

Website Goals

The project goal is to establish an attractive & effective communication tool for the Town of Sterlington’s government to:

  1. Inform the public of important issues affecting its citizens and businesses.

  2. Help the town more easily satisfy the Freedom of Information Act.

  3. Promote the town to prospective businesses and residents, thereby assisting in economic development
