Letter from the Mayor

Welcome Message
| Letter from the Mayor (July 2007)
| Letter from the Mayor (August
2007)
July and August have been two very busy months for everyone at town
hall. From meetings with Senator Landrieu, Congressman Alexander,
Department of Environmental Quality, and our state delegation the
last two months have flown buy. Once again it is time for school to
start again. For everyone who has children attending school, please
be safe in the school zones, especially on U.S. 165. The
intersection at 165 and Keystone is very dangerous. Chief Bonner and
I have had conversations with the Department of Transportation,
Representative Mike Walsworth, Representative Charles McDonald about
this intersection. A request was made to DOTD to conduct a review on
what can be done to alleviate this problem some time ago and sent to
Baton Rouge and we are awaiting their response.
In August the LMA convention was held in the City of Monroe. The
Town of Sterlington won first place in community achievement for
Basic Service for our efforts in improving our sanitary sewer
system. I would like to thank our public works department for all of
their hard work but this award really belongs to our prior Mayor
Cliff Bullock. If not for his efforts and concern for improving our
sewer system this award would not have been possible.
I want to remind everyone that on August 28th at 5:30 p.m. we will
have a public hearing for the consolidated garbage service. I urge
everyone who can attend to be present and have their voice heard on
this matter.
The response from our business community about the formation of the
Sterlington Chamber has been exciting to watch and proves that there
are a lot of people interested in seeing our community grow and
prosper.
Sincerely,
Vern A. Breland |
